A Beautiful Nightmare
A Beautiful Nightmare
Dr. Elias Crowe woke up in his quiet apartment, rubbed his eyes, and stepped outside for his morning coffee. The street was gone.
Instead, the sky had melted into swirling violets and screaming pinks. Giant mushrooms pulsed like living hearts. Candy-colored trees twisted into impossible shapes, dripping glowing sap. Two versions of himself stood before him — one crouching with a nervous grin, the other clutching his own face in wide-eyed horror.
“Oh crap” Elias whispered.
The crouching twin winked. “Welcome to the other side, Doctor. Reality just filed for divorce.”
And as the psychedelic forest laughed around him, Elias realized with a strange, terrifying joy that he wasn’t dreaming.
The dream had finally swallowed the world.
