The Last Bell
In The Last Bell, a quiet yet surreal moment of transformation unfolds, suspended between what’s ending and what’s yet to come. A flaming figure hovers in midair, caught in a space where the past still lingers and the future whispers of change. Below, a bell pepper floats in defiance of logic, while a blue couch rests in a dome-like sanctuary, holding echoes of familiarity and comfort. A procession of pink birds marches beneath, their steady rhythm contrasting with the chaos above. What do we carry forward, and what must we let go? Endings are rarely clear, but within the pause lies the possibility of renewal.

The Artist
Peter Kalas (b. 1985, Bydgoszcz, Poland) creates work that balances the bold and the surreal, inviting viewers into moments of quiet reflection, transformation, and curiosity. A self-taught artist with a background in graphic design, Kalas draws from a layered personal history shaped by displacement, adaptation, and resilience. Having fled Poland as a political refugee in the late 1980s, Kalas grew up in Denmark, where he later pursued graphic design and built a decade-long career in the creative industry. His artistic practice, however, defies the boundaries of design. Inspired by the expressive energy of Jean-Michel Basquiat and the childlike spontaneity of Robert Nava, Kalas works with crisp lines, minimalistic compositions, and a sense of restrained surrealism. Using flat planes of color and unexpected juxtapositions, his pieces invite viewers to sit with both what is seen and what lingers beneath, exploring themes of loneliness, transformation, and fleeting connections. Kalas works intuitively, drawing from his surroundings, memories, and emotions. Each piece exists as part of an ongoing narrative, a continuum of moments suspended between the past and future. Through his visual storytelling, Kalas creates space for ambiguity, interpretation, and emotion, offering not just answers but open-ended questions. Peter Kalas’ work explores what it means to pause, reflect, and connect, one image at a time.
